The Oreti Caller
This is their most versatile, high-volume tool designed for "big water" (large lakes and wide river mouths).
Reed Type: Single Reed.
Material: Available in various hardwoods (Rimu, Rosewood, Walnut, or Australian Hardwood).
Sound Profile: Delivers clear, natural tones with enough volume to cut through wind and carry over long distances.
The Aparima Caller
While similar in craftsmanship to the Oreti, the Aparima is often tuned for a slightly different tonal range, often leaning toward a raspier, "meatier" sound for closer work or smaller pond environments.
Material: Usually handcrafted from premium hardwoods.
The Waiau Caller (The "Powerhouse")
The Waiau is generally the "reach out and touch them" call. Because the Waiau River is one of New Zealand’s largest and most wind-exposed systems, this caller is built for volume and aggression.
Reed Setup: Typically a Single Reed.
Best For: Big lakes (like Te Anau or Manapouri) and wide river mouths.
Performance: It is designed to be "blown hard." It has a sharp, high-end "ring" that can cut through a howling Southland gale. If you have ducks hanging a few hundred yards out that won't commit, the Waiau is the tool you use to "shout" at them.
The Mataura Caller (The "Finesse" Call)
The Mataura River is famous for its world-class trout fishing and its relatively steady, clear flows. The Mataura caller is the acoustic opposite of the Waiau.
Reed Setup: Often tuned as a Double Reed (or a very soft Single Reed).
Best For: The "X"—the exact spot where you want the ducks to land. It’s perfect for the smaller, spring-fed creeks and sheltered ponds common around the Mataura valley.
Performance: This is a "low and slow" caller. It excels at the "nasally" hen sounds and quiet, contented quacks. It is much harder to "over-blow," making it ideal for the final 30 yards of the hunt when you need to be subtle so the birds don't spot the ruse.
