Riders Sports is a locally owned and operated fishing, hunting, camping, and outdoor store based in the heart of Kaitaia.

Originally founded in 1952 by the Rider family, the store has been part of the Far North outdoor scene for generations. In December 2024, ownership passed to Kane and Laura Attwood who after years of running successful businesses in very different industries, were both ready for a career change and took a leap of faith and stepped into something new. With Kane’s passion for the outdoors and Laura’s business and management experience, it was a match made in heaven and they continue the legacy while bringing fresh energy, modern systems, and a strong community focus into the business.

We live and breathe the Far North lifestyle. From surfcasting on the 90 to heading out wide to the deep blue, to hunting trips, duck season, camping and sports with the kids. This isn’t just retail for us, it’s real life.

At Riders Sports, we focus on quality gear that actually works in Northland conditions. We carefully select brands and products we trust, use ourselves, and stand behind. Whether you’re gearing up for your first fishing trip or fine tuning a serious setup, we take the time to give honest advice. No upselling, no nonsense.

We’re proud to give back to the community that supports us. Each year, Riders Sports contributes thousands of dollars in sponsorship, prizes, vouchers, and gear to local fishing competitions, sports teams, schools, and community events across the Far North.
