Who we are

Riders Sports is a locally owned fishing, hunting, outdoors and general sports store right in the heart of Kaitaia.

First opened in 1952 by the Rider family, the store has been part of the Far North outdoor scene for generations. In December 2024, Kane and Laura Attwood took over, stepping into something new after years in completely different industries.

With Kane’s passion for the outdoors and Laura’s business experience, it was a natural fit. The goal is simple, carry on what Riders has always been known for, while bringing in fresh energy, better systems, and a strong focus on community.

We live the lifestyle. Surfcasting the 90, heading wide when the weather plays ball, hunting trips, duck season, camping, and kids’ sports, it’s all part of it. This isn’t just a shop to us, it’s everyday life.

We stock gear that works. No BS, just brands and products we trust, use ourselves, and stand behind. Whether you’re just getting started or dialing in your setup, you’ll get straight up advice every time.

We’re big on backing our community too, putting thousands each year into local comps, sports teams, schools, and events around the Far North.
